Churu is located in Rajasthan state, in northwestern India. Founded in 1620 A.D. by Churu, a chieftain of the Jats (an agricultural people of northern India), the town has a hospital and a college affiliated with the University of Rajasthan. Churu district (16,829 sq. km) comprises a semi-arid sandy plain, watered only by the Katli River in the northeast.

Sights to see

Salasar Balaji:A famous temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman is located here. Salasar is in district Churu. Situated at Jaipur-Bikaner Highway, it is one of the well-known pilgrimages of India. It is said that Lord Balaji fulfills all desires of devotees. Lakhs of devotees visit this temple every year.


Ratangarh: The mammoth fort, built in 1820 AD by the Raja of Bikaner- Ratan Singh, is situated on the Agra-Bikaner Highway. The market place is in the shape of a cross suggesting that the city was planned before construction. An array of stately havelis can be seen around the clock tower at the main crossing.Surana haveli:The six-storeyed, enormous building has artistic windows and elegant doors that are more than 1,100 in number.Pilani: Also known as the 'home of the Birlas', the BITS campus is worth a visit. Churu is also famous for the Kothar Haveli (1915 AD) and Kanhaiya Lal Bagla Haveli (1870).

Shri Mansa Mata Mandir :In and amongst innumerable Divine manifestations, there was one Temple as old as 400-450 years which stood upon a sand top called a TIBA at Lambore Dham in Churu District of Rajasthan, India.Lambore Dham (Lambore Bari) is accessible from Delhi/Jaipur by Road or by Rail, the distance in each case being approx. 240 Kms. Nearest Railway Station is SADULPUR (Rajgarh),on N.R.(Meter Gauge). Lambore Bari is situated 8 Kms south of Rajgarh on Rajgarh-Malsisar-Jhunjhunu road, a 15 minute journey by car, jeep and bus available almost round the clock.

Sardar Shahar (46km): This enchanting desert town has exquisitely beautiful havelis adorned with colourful wall paintings and carved woodwork.

 

Dudhwa Khara (36 km): A sprawling historical village lying in the Thar Desert. Besides enchanting topography, the village has huge, exquisitely designed havelis. One can enjoy the rural life and camel safaris in the village.

 

Tal Chhapar Sanctuary: -Location : Churu District, 220 km from Jaipur, 80 km from Mandawa Tal Chhapar Sanctuary in Churu district is famous for black-bucks. It is a flat saline depression, has a unique ecosystem. It is situated in North-Western Rajasthan and thus lies on the way of the migratory passage of many birds. The most spectacular migration seen from here is that of harries. These birds pass through this area during the month of September.Montagur’s and marsh harrier are more common, while pale harrier and ben harrier are found in lesser numbers. Besides these imperial eagle, tawny eagle, short toed eagle, sparrow hawk are common here. The other birds commonly seen here are skylark, crested lark, ring drove, brown dove, blue jay, green bee eaters, black ibis and demoiselle cranes which stay there till March.

Electricity: Power supply to the district is from Bhakra hydel Complex through 132 KV lines coming via Hissar in Haryana. of the total 926 vilalges in the district, 902 villages have been electrified.

Water: Water is available at the depth of 30 to 48 metres except in some places viz. Sujangarh and Tonaragarh tehsils.

Transportation and Communication

Road Transport: The district has good conections within and ouotside the State. National Highway No.11 (Agra-Bikaner) passes through the district. The total length of roads in the district is 3,010 km.

Rail Transport: Churu district is served by meter gauge lines of Northern and Western Railways. Total length of rail line is 363 km.

Air Transport: Nearest airport is at Jaipur (189 km.)

Location:The district is located in the North-Eastern Rajasthan. It is bounded by Sri Ganganagar district in the North, by Sikar and Jhunjhunu and Hissar district of Haryana in the East, by Nagaur in the South and in the West by Bikaner.

Renowned for the grand Kothar Haveli and Kanhaiya Haveli, with marvellous life size paintings of Dhola Maru, Sassi Punu etc., Churu is located in Rajasthan state, in northwestern India. Founded in 1620 A.D. by Churu, a chieftain of the Jats (an agricultural people of northern India), the town has a hospital and a college affiliated with the University of Rajasthan. Churu district (16,829 sq. km) comprises a semi-arid sandy plain, watered only by the Katli River in the northeast. The rolling sand hills of the district's southwest portion form part of the Bagar tract, where the breeding of sheep, cattle, and camels is extensive. Bajra (pearl millet), gram, and pulses are the chief crops; gypsum deposits are worked.Famous for the Kothar Haveli (1915 AD) Kanhayya Lal Bagla Haveli (1870 AD) having immense paintings of Dhola Maru,Sassi-Punnu, etc. and the six storeyed Surana Haveli. The distinctive features of the latter one are its beautiful windows,elegant doors-more than 1,100 in number.
