Meaning a thousand gardens, is a famous Health Hill Resort situated on a height of 2019 ft. above sea level. It has an excellent climate and beautiful sceneries are all around it in the midst of dense forest. It is rich in flora and fauna. Hazaribagh is 93 kms from Ranchi by road and at the same time it is also well connected by road with important towns of the state. It falls on N.H. 33.
The Hazaribagh plateau has on its eastern margin, Parasnath the highest hill in Bihar, rising to a height of 4,480 feet. The loftiness here is of another order.
According to Jain tradition, no less than 23 out of 24 Tirthankaras (including Parsvanatha) are believed to have attained salvation in the Sammetasikhara of the Parasnath hills. How to reach :

Nearest Airport - Ranchi, 100 kms away with bus services to Hazaribagh. The nearest Rail Head is Hazaribagh Road Rly. station, 67 kms from the Park. The station is on the Delhi-Howrah route.

Rail : Koderma is the nearest railway station , 59 km away.

Road: Hazaribag town is the well connected to Ranchi , Dhanbad ,Gaya ,Patna ,Kolkata and other places.

Nestled in low hilly terrain, at an average altitude of 1800ft. Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary stretches over 184 sq. kms. of plains, undulating country, steep hills and deep nullahs with tropical forests and grass meadows.

The Wild Population
An abundance of wild animals is a very pleasant sight. Wild bear, Nilgai, Chital and Kakar can be seen at dusk and dawn, gambolling and enjoying themselves in the waters of the lake. The tiger and panther, exclusive attractions at this sanctuary demand extreme patience from the viewer. Hazaribagh perhaps holds more Sambhars than any other area of comparable size. The 1970 census has established the presence of 14 tigers, 25 Panthers and 400 Sambars.

Watching The Wild
Numerous observation towers in the sanctuary make it all the easier to have a closer encounter with the wild. The flak-top strip of National Highway 33 passes through the sanctuary by its main gate at Pokharia, 21 kms from Barhi and 16 kms from Hazaribagh. 111 kms roads in the sanctuary take motorists to the remotest corners and to masonry towers, strategically located, offer excellent opportunities for viewing the wilds during the best months of October to April. The sanctuary is surrounded by habitations of tribals.

Places to Visit 

Wildlife Sanctuary : For the eco-tourist , nature lover and wildlife enthusiast , the highlights are hills , deep nullahs , thick tropical woodlands and grassy meadows . Sal is the dominant tree species . Wild bear , sambhar , niligai , cheetal and kakar are permanent residents. Sloth bear , tiger and panther also prowl around . The presence of 10 observation towers in the sanctuary makes it all the more easier for that close encounter with wildlife.

Canary Hill : Close to the town lies the Canary Hill that has a finely laid out park and is studded with small lakes thus making it enchanting .

Suraj Kund : It's a hot spring about 72 km from Hazaribag . Buses are available from the town to this place.
